Editing items
Almost all editing is done in the side panel on the right of Rack Elevation, Port Mapping and Power Budget: select something and its properties appear there. Every change can be undone with Ctrl+Z until you save.
Selecting
| To select | Do this |
|---|---|
| A device | Click it, or click the caption above its card |
| A rack | Click the rack (Rack Elevation) |
| A NIC | Click its label (Port Mapping) |
| A port | Click it. Hovering shows its label, speed, connector, bond and link |
| A cable | Click the line |
| Several items | Shift+click each, or Shift+drag a box on empty canvas |
| All devices | Ctrl+A |
| Anything by name | Top-bar search (Ctrl+F) |
Esc clears the selection.
Deleting
Select the items and press Delete or Backspace, or use the Delete button at the bottom of the item's panel (Delete Node, Delete Rack, Delete Cable, Disconnect Cable…).
- Deleting a rack asks first, and unracks its devices rather than deleting them.
- Port Mapping won't delete power cords or inlets, and Power Budget won't delete network cables or NICs — switch views. Whole devices can be deleted in either.
Moving
- Rack Elevation — drag a device onto another slot or another rack. All selected devices move together, stacked. The preview turns red (Occupied, Not enough space) where they don't fit. Drag a device to the Unracked area below the racks to take it out of its rack, and drag an unracked card into a rack to mount it.
- Port Mapping / Power Budget — drag a device's card. Positions snap to a grid. Only the device you drag moves. Auto Layout (Ctrl+L) arranges racked devices in columns by rack and puts unracked ones in a line below.
Racks
Select a rack to edit its Label, Units (height) and Row. Racks are grouped by row in Rack Elevation.
Devices
The device panel shows, from the top:
- Name — click to rename. Port paths in cables follow the new name.
- Labels — tags for the label filter. With several devices selected, the box edits all of them; a label only some have shows as label n/N, with + to add it to the rest.
- Template — the catalog model the device is built from. Choosing another rebuilds its NICs and ports. If that would leave cabled ports with nowhere to go, a warning lists them, with Apply anyway and Cancel.
- Model, Manufacturer, Rack units, Rack, Elevation — read-only summary. A PDU also shows its electrical spec.
- Interfaces (Outlets on a PDU), with how many are linked. Click a port chip to select it.
- Bonds.
- Edit device (folded) — see below.
Racking a device
Under Edit device → Racking:
- Rack Units (U) — the device's height. On a racked device it grows downward from its top, pushing devices below it down; any that no longer fit are unracked.
- Rack — None or a rack.
- Start Unit — the lowest unit it occupies (1 is the bottom).
NICs, port groups, banks and inlets
Under Edit device, the NICs list (Port Groups on a switch, Load Banks on a PDU) has a row per group: rename it, delete it with ×, or expand it to edit its ports. Each port chip has a speed and connector selector and ×. + Port adds a port. + Inlet adds a power inlet.
On a device made from a template, these are locked: change them in Materials and every device using the template updates.
Position X / Y sets where the card sits in Port Mapping.
NICs
Select a NIC by its label to edit its Label and its ports. Its Chassis face (front or back) is shown read-only; it is set in the Materials editor or the DSL. For an inlet, the panel also has the PSU model and PSU serial number — the serial number stays editable on templated devices.
Ports
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Label | |
| Speed | Not shown for power ports |
| Connector Form Factor | Plug on a captive power cord. Locked on templated devices |
| Link | Read-only: Up / Down / Unknown / Not cabled, the cable's capacity and the negotiated speed. A breakout port lists each lane |
| Breakout | None, 2× or 4×. Switch ports only; disabled while any lane is cabled. On a templated switch this is the one port property you can still change |
| Channels | For a breakout port, each lane, with × to disconnect it |
| Bond | None, an existing bond, or + New bond. The bond editor sets the bond's name and mode, lists its members, and × dissolves it |
| Disconnect Cable / Cord | Removes the cable |
An inlet port also has PSU model and serial number, Type (Inlet — detachable cord or Power cable — wired in), Cord length (wired-in cords only) and Draw (W), which feeds the Power Budget.
Cables
Network cable
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Template | A catalog cable, or — none —. With a template, material, mode, speed and parts are locked and come from the template. Removing the template copies its values onto the cable |
| Labels | Edits every selected cable, and every lane of a breakout |
| Length | Free text, e.g. 5 m |
| Capacity | Read-only: the rated speed |
| Link | Unknown, Up or Down. Choosing Down clears the negotiated speed |
| Negotiated speed | At capacity, or the slower speed the link runs at |
| Material, Mode, Speed | Without a template: Copper (DAC/ACC) or Fiber (AOC), Active or Passive |
| Assembly | The parts: the transceiver at each end, the fiber or copper between them, and + Add breakout transceiver for 1→N cables. Serial numbers are edited on the diagram, in each optic's box |
Power cord — its ends, Labels, Length, and Unplug Cord.
Filtering by label
Filter by label, at the top of the side panel, appears once anything has a label. Every label is a button, all on by default, plus Unlabeled. Click a label to hide what carries it in this view; All turns every label back on.
- Rack Elevation, Port Mapping and Power Budget grey out and hatch the devices left out (they stay selectable).
- Fabric Topology hides them.
- The BOM doesn't count them, and says it is filtered.
Fabric Topology adds a Fabric labels group for network cable labels, and Power Budget a Power grid group for power cord labels. The filter is per view and is not saved in the file.
